Here we go!

June 16, 2014 at 9:08:22 AM GMT

Good luck to all participants :)

June 16, 2014 at 9:23:10 AM GMT

Class A

- 4x AM

- 6x EMEA

- 5x APAC

Class B

- 3x Global

More than last year

June 16, 2014 at 9:30:01 AM GMT

Oh yeah! Keep pushing it!

June 16, 2014 at 9:47:05 AM GMT

in regards to class B, is that the GTX750 and/or the 750Ti model?

June 16, 2014 at 9:50:38 AM GMT

go go go Indonesia ;)

June 16, 2014 at 10:01:34 AM GMT

in regards to class B, is that the GTX750 and/or the 750Ti model?

Only the normal GTX 750. No Ti

June 16, 2014 at 10:50:58 AM GMT

One overclocker per country in Class A and B.

Question:

Does this mean:

1) Maximum 2(two) person of same country qualified, one from class A, one from class B.

or

2) Maximum one person of same country qualified for MOA, either from Class A or Class B.(And in this case of one person only, if there's 2 candidates, one from class A and one class B from one country, which one got qualified?)

Thanks,

June 16, 2014 at 10:54:11 AM GMT

Only 1 person per country for A and only 1 person per country for B. So it's possible that there are 2 participants from the same Country in total (1x A and 1 x B)

June 16, 2014 at 11:01:06 AM GMT

Okay, thanks for clearing that up :)

June 16, 2014 at 11:40:14 AM GMT

Hi, I have a Question. Do the contest have any age requeriment? Because I am 17 years old and Im deciding if I buy MSI hardware to compete or stay with my actual hardware.

Thanks!

June 16, 2014 at 12:18:22 PM GMT

Please download the LN2 BIOS and Afterburner Extreme here.

Doesn't link anywhere.... you crafty buggers :P

Doesn't link anywhere.... you crafty buggers :P

They always put it when the competition starts. The same with the background.

June 16, 2014 at 2:44:15 PM GMT

I don't like this rule

Last year's MOA finalists are not allowed to participate in Class B, only Class A.

June 16, 2014 at 2:51:14 PM GMT

Why only one per country :( If for example 2 german in Top 6 only 1 can go?

June 16, 2014 at 3:00:35 PM GMT

Why only one per country :( If for example 2 german in Top 6 only 1 can go?

If they compete in the same class, then yes only 1 can go.

Rule like this has been around for quite a long time, and it might meant to make the contestant more 'diverse' across countries. You can still make 2 Germans pass though, you can compete one in class A, one in Class B :)

June 16, 2014 at 3:12:48 PM GMT

I thought you're Swiss? :D

June 16, 2014 at 4:12:16 PM GMT

Hi guys...

CLASS A QUALIFIER RULES

Any MSI Z97 motherboard.

Use 1 CPU. Server CPUs (Xeon, Opteron) not allowed.

Any MSI R9 series graphics card. Single GPU.

External power circuit disallowed.

CLASS B QUALIFIER RULES

Any MSI Z87, Z97 motherboard. (LGA 1150)

Intel Pentium G3258 CPU. Use 1 CPU. Server CPUs not allowed.

GTX 750 graphics card allowed. Single GPU.

Please download the LN2 BIOS and Afterburner Extreme here.

External power circuit allowed.

Only use hardware that is available for retail.

This competition is between Members. Employee (either full-time or part-time) of any motherboard manufacturers is not eligible for the contest.

Are those requirements right? I mean...for the class?. Any way, I have some questions:

1) Only R9 is allowed for class A? Or can I use nVidia models...

2) This is not very clear for me: "The top 18 overclockers from different classes and regions will be invited to the MOA 2014 Grand Final. Only the highest ranked participant per country (for each round) will get a ticket to Grand Final." The total of participants in the final (On Taiwan I guess) will be 18? The 18 top will travel to the final?

June 16, 2014 at 4:19:47 PM GMT

No EPower needed for class A since 290X Lightning is available.

1. Only AMD R9 models. So R9 290X reference or Lightning if you want to have a real chance.

2. The top 18 will go to the final. However maximum 1 per country (2 if 1 x A and 1 x B) and 4x AM, 6x EMEA, 5x APAC

June 16, 2014 at 4:40:34 PM GMT

So so since USA is split in two, that means one from east and one from west can potentially go? If so, I'm in Texas. That's in the middle, but more west than east.

June 16, 2014 at 4:45:50 PM GMT

Crap, too much money.

1) That Lightning is on 680 USD on Newegg, plus 80-100 USD more fro shipping to my country.

2) Another 600 on mobo and CPU (only one CPU) plus shipping

3) A cheap SSD

4) Maybe PSU too...

I think that I would have to cross my fingers again and wait that Tom's send me again to cover the event...if that can happen....xD

June 16, 2014 at 6:16:26 PM GMT

You can still participate in Class B :)

Z87/Z97 MPower ~200 USD (used even cheaper)

70 USD CPU

120 USD GPU

June 16, 2014 at 7:19:55 PM GMT

Is this not plain logic ?

why is this logic?

B class is not a class for people with less skill than A class

the difference between class A and class B is that it is cheaper to participate in class B

June 16, 2014 at 7:30:26 PM GMT

Dont worry you have great skills for class A :)

June 16, 2014 at 7:39:37 PM GMT

Zzoilio has crazy solder skills. And he can use his skill better in the cheaper stage, i understand how he must feel

June 16, 2014 at 8:10:43 PM GMT

class B looks really fun for sure!

June 16, 2014 at 8:18:57 PM GMT

Z87/Z97 MPower ~200 USD (used even cheaper)

70 USD CPU

That's another option, but I think that is more difficult to get the ticket (more when I am a nOOb on this competitions) and we compete against top guys around the world.

1200 USD for class A (CPU, mobo, GPU, SSD), I would enter in the AM qualifiers so, would be Mikecdm, rbuass, gnidaol, ftw that have to compete on class A as rules says, plus the other guys that enter on the same class in the competition.

Decisions...

Well, in my country people doesn't do overclock but I have to enter in the AM qualifiers so, any "advantage" goes to the trash.

June 16, 2014 at 8:58:37 PM GMT

Is Kazakhstan APAC or EMEA? APAC, I guess?

June 16, 2014 at 9:27:26 PM GMT

EMEA

Europe / middle east / africa. So i think kazakshtan is apac yes?

June 16, 2014 at 10:00:19 PM GMT

Overall page says EMEA starts 15. June, but when i open it it says 1th June :D Whats right here?

I too want to start now... but no G3258s to start binning for another few weeks. :(

I know what you mean Martin, though I see Class B more as an entrance for new OCing blood. Nothing more nothing less, it's like a top Formula 1 driver going for karting. If nothing happens ( technical failure) he will asswhoop the rest. Just imagine you, Vivi and Splave doing Class B, what's the point in that ? Better give a straight ticket then for China :D

June 16, 2014 at 10:41:20 PM GMT

Just a buuug. Im sure its 15jul start like in description.

15 jul so late.. i wanna start now!

PJ, can you please confirm 15th Juli or is it 1th Juli :)

June 17, 2014 at 1:30:44 AM GMT

So we in Class B are looking at

N750 1GD5/OCV1

N750 2GD5/OC

N750 TF 1GD5/OC

N750 1GD5/OC

is it unlikely that we could expect a "Hawk" or something to be released with a decent VRM?

or more likely that this is it for the product range and thats it?

June 17, 2014 at 1:52:09 AM GMT

PJ, can you please confirm 15th Juli or is it 1th Juli :)

15 July

Hi, I have a Question. Do the contest have any age requeriment? Because I am 17 years old and Im deciding if I buy MSI hardware to compete or stay with my actual hardware.

Thanks!

I'll need to check that with MSI. I am pretty sure you'd need your parents consent or something like that.

June 17, 2014 at 1:58:44 AM GMT

Class B, rules don't specifically say 'only MSI cards' like A, but worth clarifying, is B also limited to MSI cards only?

June 17, 2014 at 1:59:10 AM GMT

So so since USA is split in two, that means one from east and one from west can potentially go? If so, I'm in Texas. That's in the middle, but more west than east.

To clarify,

Yes, MSI cards only. I will specify that in the rules.

June 17, 2014 at 4:47:14 AM GMT

Cheers mm, handy to know for those of us needing to buy cards (likely almost everyone).

No hawks :(

June 17, 2014 at 5:03:45 AM GMT

Great to see MSI doing MOA again this year, but I'm slightly puzzled by the one participant per country rule, it would make sense if not for the USA 2 participants rule.

I heard the rule is to stop hardware sharing, all of the TeamAU guys live 10+ hour drives apart. If I want to bench with Jack its 6 hours on a plane or 3 days car drive. So how do the US get 2 spots? Surely it cant be due to population, because Brazil or India arn't getting 2 spots?

Is it possible for us to get some clarification on how US get 2 spots when everyone else get 1? I'm interesting in the thought process that went into this

Cheers

so its purely a marketing decision? OK that makes sense

is there a plan in place to prevent hardware sharing in US?

Peru is not there?

June 17, 2014 at 5:29:14 AM GMT

Peru would be in "others"

June 17, 2014 at 6:07:41 AM GMT

So we in Class B are looking at

N750 1GD5/OCV1

N750 2GD5/OC

N750 TF 1GD5/OC

N750 1GD5/OC

is it unlikely that we could expect a "Hawk" or something to be released with a decent VRM?

or more likely that this is it for the product range and thats it?

I think the best choice can be N750 TF 1GD5/OC + 2 EVGA ePower. I don't know if 2GB can help in firestrike.

June 17, 2014 at 7:32:18 AM GMT

Peru would be in "others"

I live in Italy but my team is Peruvian can I participate? but what APAC EMEA APAC?

June 17, 2014 at 7:33:14 AM GMT

Since you live in Italy you will participate for EMEA

June 17, 2014 at 7:43:18 AM GMT

I am working in Zambia during the contest. can i enter under Zambia for Class A ? ;) ;)

June 17, 2014 at 8:31:25 AM GMT

It's by passport, not country of residence

June 17, 2014 at 9:25:59 AM GMT

It's by passport, not country of residence

so if i have a polish passport i can try eliminate XA before finals??

June 17, 2014 at 9:55:31 AM GMT

Allmost same here i have an german passport and an half swiss passport :D Can i start for switzerland?

June 17, 2014 at 10:18:41 AM GMT

Allmost same here i have an german passport and an half swiss passport :D Can i start for switzerland?

if you fly with that passport to MOA then probly yes

June 17, 2014 at 10:36:43 AM GMT

This loophole searching is taken to a new dimension lol

June 17, 2014 at 11:03:15 AM GMT

there's a black market for passports, you know? :D

June 17, 2014 at 11:06:03 AM GMT

I can sell you my passport. Noone else from Bulgaria will try to compete, so you only have to beat other EMEA guys.

Simple, eh?

The price won't be low, though... better spend the money for binning :D

June 17, 2014 at 11:41:19 AM GMT

This loophole searching is taken to a new dimension lol

keeping you on your toes bud :D

June 17, 2014 at 12:31:51 PM GMT

Hey Massman, quick one... do you perhaps have a release schedule or something for the G3258 and when it will be available worldwide? Out of interest i wanted to do a costing exercise on the cost to compete in class b vs class a (even though I already have everything for class a) and out of the 6 distro's i called not one knew or knows when it will be available. i see 25th on newegg but can find no info for the rest of us in aaaafrica..

June 17, 2014 at 1:15:38 PM GMT

:D

Next question, Pro overclockers allowed to compete in Class B or not?

June 17, 2014 at 2:36:11 PM GMT

Boys, compete in class A please! Give me a try))

June 17, 2014 at 2:41:28 PM GMT

Im not pro lol this was question in generall ;)

I gues Pro guys only Class A?

June 17, 2014 at 2:42:53 PM GMT

Same question. 2GB would do a difference in FireStrike?

You at least know how to use those ePower, this would be my 1st time with GPU under sub-zero temps.

Newegg start to ship on 25/06 while Amazon start to ship on 20/06, I have on pre-order on Amazon with Prime that is 2 days delivery, after that I have to wait another 5 days that arrive to my country.

June 17, 2014 at 5:05:05 PM GMT

i have a feeling 2gb will be king, but its just a feeling. i hope not cause only 1gb in sa lol!

Yes i know how to use the ePower, u need some skill to solder it on the board. Is not a matter of first experience sub-zero but some experience with soldering iron.

If you are interest can read some thread on http://kingpincooling.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=31

That's one of my jobs http://kingpincooling.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2671

the 2gb card have a poor alimentation on gpu, ePower need for sure.

Msi release ln2 bios for all the cards? That's important.

June 17, 2014 at 6:56:08 PM GMT

If you guys need help with ePower just let me know :)

June 17, 2014 at 7:15:05 PM GMT

I will use the link provided by rule, if I need more help I will ask.

LN2 BIOS is released as soon as the contest start right?

June 17, 2014 at 9:19:39 PM GMT

Yes same question, Afterburner Extreme and LN2 Bios will be shared by MSI for all Compitors?

June 17, 2014 at 9:19:40 PM GMT

It is going to be a very hard competition, I want to compete in Class B but I dont have GPU pot and dont have money for LN2 (Only DICE) so I dont have many chances :(

June 17, 2014 at 9:33:30 PM GMT

Yes same question, Afterburner Extreme and LN2 Bios will be shared by MSI for all Compitors?

They'd need to release it by July 1st for this rule:

Not allowed: engineering samples, Lucid Virtu MVP, hardware that is not commercially available at the beginning of the competition.

25/06 is the date I got as well. Last week of June.

It may not be available in some countries, but in this globalized world it shouldn't be too difficult getting your hands on some chips?

June 18, 2014 at 2:06:24 AM GMT

:D

Next question, Pro overclockers allowed to compete in Class B or not?

Sure.

The only people not allowed to compete in Class B are the MOA finalists of last year.

June 18, 2014 at 2:08:00 AM GMT

Msi release ln2 bios for all the cards? That's important.

They said yes, but let me check to be sure anyway :)

June 18, 2014 at 10:26:40 PM GMT

June 18, 2014 at 10:41:14 PM GMT

4790K for Class A I guess, Class B is limited to Intel Pentium G3258 CPU.

June 18, 2014 at 10:58:28 PM GMT

Class a should be 4770k and 4790k.. based upon amazon 4770k should be available the 25th.. it was supposed to be release on the 20th.

June 18, 2014 at 11:28:16 PM GMT

Here is 23th june :)

All i see is a lot of US Guys on MOA :D Im still not happy with this ``Rule``

June 18, 2014 at 11:47:39 PM GMT

Will 4790k be able to be used in this comp?

Not allowed: ...hardware that is not commercially available at the beginning of the competition...

4790K has been released already few weeks ago so yes you can use it :) Only the release date matters. Not the local availability.

June 18, 2014 at 11:56:25 PM GMT

Interesting.. who else is competing from the east?

I'm in tampa.. so..

June 19, 2014 at 2:08:09 AM GMT

AM region should be interesting this year. Its kinda like the Deleon in Need for Speed, all we are missing is batman telling us who gets a chance to race.

June 19, 2014 at 8:04:34 AM GMT

So what's east and west America's?

June 19, 2014 at 8:27:24 AM GMT

There are 5 tickets for Americas region. 1 maximum per country. For the USA: 1 max east and 1 max west.

June 19, 2014 at 11:44:24 AM GMT

I think they all still use the same passport and that would put them all in the same area.

sorry :(

Is english and Wales differened Passports? If not they must compete in same Country :D

June 19, 2014 at 12:54:14 PM GMT

Massman already clarified that only the passport is important and not the country/state of residence. So if you are from Wales you will participate for the UK.

yes very interesting, i wonder if should there be a system in place to deal with people with more than one passport ;)

June 19, 2014 at 1:02:38 PM GMT

I know someone which has both COuntry Passports because of parents out of differened countrys :P

June 19, 2014 at 1:07:55 PM GMT

I'll need to check that with MSI. I am pretty sure you'd need your parents consent or something like that.

Any news about my question? (Do the contest have any age requeriment? Because I am 17 years old)

June 19, 2014 at 1:08:39 PM GMT

but not shure if A or B :D

if you can get to the hardware then Class A is the class to play in... for sure. there are a lot of unknown factors to take into consideration with class b and a much higher risk with only 3 spots global.

June 19, 2014 at 2:26:40 PM GMT

if you can get to the hardware then Class A is the class to play in... for sure. there are a lot of unknown factors to take into consideration with class b and a much higher risk with only 3 spots global.

That's the problem...but in my case I see the budget side of the contest with only the cost of the 290x Lightning I can buy all the hardware for class B.

Any way, I am pretty sure that is almost impossible for me to get a ticket but my hobby is the OC and I do this at this time for fun and for learn a little more, maybe in future I can go to the final with a ticket.

June 19, 2014 at 2:36:23 PM GMT

Depends on how good my 290X Lightning is :)

June 19, 2014 at 3:23:55 PM GMT

No matter if A or B this year will be really hard to qualify :D

June 19, 2014 at 4:23:17 PM GMT

So what's east and west America's?

Depends on who you ask ;) According to the MOA rules, If I remember the map correctly, they have it divided along the east side of the Dakotas following the state lines into the gulf.

Mike might be in this thing all by himself. ;)

June 21, 2014 at 2:23:00 AM GMT

Guys I know that this question is a little "stupid" for many of you but...

I already have the Z97 + G3258 + GTX 750 + SSD + RAM. Do you guys think than a good 850W PSU can be enough for run that hardware and do extreme overclock?

June 21, 2014 at 2:39:36 AM GMT

Yesss easy! It will be enough.

Just not Ezcool 850w. A branded one i hope :P

June 21, 2014 at 3:45:57 AM GMT

That was my 1st option... :D

I was thinking in this two:

The evga will crushhhh the xfx

June 21, 2014 at 11:19:54 AM GMT

The EVGA is a very good PSU... You also have Seasonic M12II 850 for U$S 119 or Seasonic X-850 for U$S 170, which are very good options.

I think that with 650W you are ok. Pentium G3258 @ 4,4 GHz 1.219v has a max consumption of 64W (Source: Hexus), and reference GTX 750 with stock clocks has a max consumption of 76W (Source: Guru 3D), so I think that even with OC the full system wont exceed 650W.

which card do you have chose buddy? 1gb/2gb?

You already have one on your hand? can tell us which vrm controller use?

June 22, 2014 at 5:36:33 PM GMT

MSI 750 should use up1608 for VRM .. some rev PCB actually have 4x phase.. newer revs are coming with 4x phase missing ;( Not sure what designates a full fledged 4x phase card.. but seems hit or miss with PCB rev 2.0.

*PCI-E connection can be added easily

*vmem is single phase - GS9208B : FB = pin20

WTB G3258 in Australia.... :( 4790K is retail now, but still no pentiums...

Go for class A and let us a better chance...

June 24, 2014 at 3:28:10 PM GMT

No chance in Class B for guys like me or you. Not underestimating your skills, but it would require cpu binning, which means one thing - money.

And class B is global, which lowers our chances even further.

Class A seems easier, but is much more expensive, at least on paper.

I might try this year, but haven't decided yet.

Plus hardware availability for these components is not existent in Bulgaria.

The cpu will probably be available some time next month (if I manage to get one from the first delivery), but the mobo needs to be ordered from abroad.

No Lightning either, if I choose class A.

June 24, 2014 at 3:45:40 PM GMT

Not problem I.nfraR.ed, I know that is impossible that I get a ticket for the finals, and my skill are very very low...this would be my 1st time with GPU under sub-zero temps.

But anyway, I will enter just for fun during some weeks. :D

June 24, 2014 at 3:58:01 PM GMT

remember guys you get smart binning and dumb binning. if you buy from a good batch you only need to buy 5 cpu's. if you buy from a rotten batch you will need 100.

so start that pentium K batch thread asap

June 24, 2014 at 4:07:21 PM GMT

What batch? :P

Given the timeframe for qualifiers, I would not have a choice for different batches.

The one that will be imported will have the same batch for all cpus and we will have to wait for another one, when it will be not sure if it will be available before the qualifiers end.

Plus I can't buy many cpus, probably 3 max at a given time, then need to sell them quick to get some more (if available in the stores).

June 24, 2014 at 4:11:31 PM GMT

lol...5? I only can buy 1 or 2, and not binning because I can't keep it when qualifiers ends.

June 24, 2014 at 4:15:18 PM GMT

if you buy from a good batch you only need to buy 5 cpu's. if you buy from a rotten batch you will need 100.

The variance of those cheap cpu is going to be crazy. I mean, from 20 4770K of same batch(L316B291), the best I got is 5Ghz @ 1.25V 2c/2t pi 1M, the worst is 4.6 @ 1.25V 2c/2t pi 1M.

But from some G3258s, I found a 4.9Ghz @ 1.25v pi 1m (maxxed 6.2Ghz pi 32M LN2), but i also found the one who can't pass 4.5 Ghz pi 1M even with 1.3 V.(5.5Ghz max valids LN2)

If the silicon quality of retail Pentium G3258 were the same as the ES I tested in TW, then yes we're going to need hundreds of them before we found a good one :D :D

June 24, 2014 at 6:18:28 PM GMT

If you looking at how strong the competition is for Class B, and you're looking at how hard it is to find a good CPU, you're going to be discouraged before you even start.

What's the use then of participating if you're not going to enjoy it?

Just buy a few CPU's, keep the best one, get the GPU and do your best with what you have. If you're gonna stress yourself out about winning then you are missing out on all the fun.

Overclocking in concept is to take the hardware that you have and OC the best you can by any means possible. Not everyone wins the silicone lottery :D

Just my 2c :)

:( This year will be tough. I hate this one person per country rule, but at least we still have the MOA :D

Just hope the finals doesn't coincide with the Brazil Game Show... Last year that was a concern for all Brazilian finalists and this year it would be (I guess) again...

June 25, 2014 at 4:38:15 AM GMT

What happen if the CPU (G3258) is not release the date that should be?

I mean, on Newegg was initially announced to release on June 20th, but now says July 1st while Amazon keeps the June 25th.

Import it from a place where it is available?

June 25, 2014 at 7:33:47 AM GMT

Thats will turn in much import, since i live outside EU :( Here in switzerland no Pentium k chips :(

June 25, 2014 at 7:39:23 AM GMT

ye i think make plans now to order where there is stock. maybe we can get a friend in taipei to sell some to MOA participants

June 25, 2014 at 7:43:33 AM GMT

i can order no problem, but this will turn in 100$ or more per chip :(

June 25, 2014 at 8:03:56 AM GMT

true true, it will be 80$ in my country and that's saying alot, will be very cheap cpu's

June 25, 2014 at 8:05:46 AM GMT

Will just test my Lightning first on weekend, maybee it does 1650 lol :P

June 25, 2014 at 11:55:53 AM GMT

Hey guys, just wondering, can you please advise on the approx week of the finals? Something about figuring out leave, overseas holidays and all that.

June 25, 2014 at 12:14:32 PM GMT

Has not been confirmed yet

June 25, 2014 at 3:04:27 PM GMT

Import it from a place where it is available?

In all e-Store that I visit yesterday was for pre-order. I am not from the USA so, if I bought that CPU in Taiwan or China I would have to wait almost 1 or 2 months until CPU arrive to my home.

I placed the pre-order on Amazon yesterday, let's hope that they ship it according to the initial date.

June 25, 2014 at 3:25:30 PM GMT

I talked to my distributor on the phone today and he said they will get the Pentium K CPUs in the 2nd week of July from Intel.

June 25, 2014 at 3:30:31 PM GMT

Same for me. I need order it from Europe, because normal shipping from Asia would take the whole month and I don't want to pay for expensive expedited shipping. On top of that I will most ptobably have to pay customs fees, VAT, etc.

June 25, 2014 at 3:47:05 PM GMT

So no binning before MOA :(

So it will be much harder in class B thought :P

June 25, 2014 at 4:53:50 PM GMT

Today is June 25th and now in Amazon is "Temporarily out of stock" while my pre-order has not been shipped.

I think that would be difficult get the CPU before 2nd week of July as Roman says.

June 25, 2014 at 5:15:43 PM GMT

I had pre-ordered both the 4790K and the G3258 from Newegg when they were listed as 6/25/14 release date, they've shipped the 4790K and now the G3258 says 7/1/14 release, so just be patient guys they're coming soon.

June 25, 2014 at 5:18:36 PM GMT

I have to add another 5 days from USA to my country...that's time :D

June 25, 2014 at 6:40:50 PM GMT

Dont worry, you will have no luck with 1 CPU :P As Vivi said, 5-10 or more is the way to go for Class B :D

June 25, 2014 at 6:45:45 PM GMT

June 27, 2014 at 12:29:59 AM GMT

what kind of cool can be used in class B? wind, water, or LN2?

What you want, but LN2 is the way to do something good.

June 27, 2014 at 5:56:03 AM GMT

Important Update: there will be no LN2 bios and no Afterburner Extreme for the GTX 750.

The reason is that the procedure to make 40 LN2 BIOSes (that's how many models there are worldwide) is too much work and the LN2 bios only increases the power limit slightly anyway. It should be possible to max out the card even without the special LN2 bios. For the Afterburner, it comes down to the PWM IC used for the GTX 750 doesn't support voltage control. So even with a special version, there wouldn't be any gain voltage wise

So yeah ... go crazy on the PWM modding! :D

Oooooh, now there is a twist for the class b guys. My thinking was that the AB and the bios would only remove the Nvidia clock limit and remove and coldbug (if any) and not give any power options. looking at the cards on google images the design would never allow the same type of control you get with a hawk or lightning :)

There's the nvidia gpu clock limit, we need homemade bios to bypass it....

Bios ln2 and afterbuner extreme for the r9 290x lightning?

June 27, 2014 at 8:30:01 AM GMT

maybe bios from 750ti from gskill contest will work :P

June 27, 2014 at 8:32:22 AM GMT

There shouldn't be a clock limit according to MSI. The maximum limit in Afterburner should be +1000

June 27, 2014 at 8:49:02 AM GMT

ok so everyone should use latest afterburner and nvidia driver

+1

Waiting for mine to ship too.

I'm considering canceling my order with Amazon and wait for local stock, it seems that would be quicker

Nice try Amazon...hope that Newegg ship it on July 1st.

My reseller said it would probably be available around 10th here, but it's not 100% sure.

*random GPU with no available BIOS support from manufacturer - sure we all understand the complications involved in supporting numerous types of GPU design... but 'we' didnt pick it..

*contest class based on unavailable CPU - MSI have no idea of retail availability... ...really...??

I like the benchies.. but really..how to participate when binning GPU is useless and CPU are not available for 1/3 of the comp time? This smells like MSI of past.. 'when something so right..can be sooo wrong'

June 28, 2014 at 6:48:43 AM GMT

Use 335.xx driver. 337.xx will have a clock limit.

Lol, I'm such a noob. Had been using 337 drivers (last ones installed on this OS) and hadn't been able to get more than +135 clock going on my card. Was really getting pissed off.

Bloody drivers.

- the bios shouldn't be a problem, that's why the decision not to spend unnecessary resources proving 40+ different variants.

- even retailers are unsure about the G3258 release date; it's an issue on Intel side rather than MSI side.

I'll bring up the issue of the G3258 with MSI. Maybe we have to allow Core i3 instead, which would sadly enough bump up the price to compete but at least it will be available to all. Or we just allow the G3250. I'll keep you guys update.

June 30, 2014 at 8:49:50 AM GMT

The CPU starts to become available in Germany. I just ordered one at a store which has some in stock. So I guess only few days and they will have a higher availability.

June 30, 2014 at 9:09:44 AM GMT

Order confirmed and payment charged to my credit card for the CPU. Bought from newegg.

I will confirm as soon as Newegg ships the package.

I guess I better reread the rules, you can't use Pentium in class A? Kind of silly to say no when the benches selected don't need 4C/8T :P

June 30, 2014 at 4:08:09 PM GMT

Tracking number confirmed from newegg. CPU on the way, Amazon order cancelled.

June 30, 2014 at 4:23:36 PM GMT

Would a non-pro/noname overclocker like me have the chance to receive AB Extreme for class A?

Last time I tried, MSI told me to download regular AB.

June 30, 2014 at 6:33:56 PM GMT

Im waiting now also for 3 weeks lol :(

Anyone having CPU supply issues, I can get you CPU's here and ship them out.

I can mail a CPU in a padded envelope pretty cheaply.

Observation, not a criticism (I don't think so anyway.....)

It amuses me that over the years, the competition has gone from a few named, specific benchmarks to (essentially) "bench anything you think you can get a WR in!"

September 23, 2014 at 7:25:28 AM GMT

@massman

i assume for day 2, a global top score is also +2 hardware ? so if you get a global top score thats 7 points right
