Cons: A bit cramped because it's ATX, most PCIe slots are useless if using multiple cards, water pump header placement is odd, vertical M.2 slot
If you're looking for an X99 motherboard for your next build, you can't go wrong with the Deluxe II. Most people don't need the Rampage V or Godlike unless you're looking for specific features or just want to hit the highest overclock (dependent on CPU as well). For most enthusiasts and gamers, the Deluxe II has more than enough features. It has plenty of IO connections, dual LAN ports, wifi, two M.2 slots (one is a PCIe expansion card), and decent onboard sound. It also has reinforced PCIe slots for heavier graphics cards. There are plenty of fan headers, all of them 4-pin, so you can control each one precisely in the BIOS. Even though they are 4-pin, you have the option of controlling them via voltage (3-pin fans) in the BIOS as well. There's also a header dedicated for a water pump if you're doing custom liquid cooling, but it's in a very awkward position that isn't easily accessible through most cable openings. It is on the left side right next to the IO ports. I ended up just using a regular fan header for my pump.
This motherboard comes with a ton of accessories. There are a bunch of cables, mounts, screws, and other things for installing drives and accessories. There are two options for M.2 drives: a vertical slot on the right side and a PCIe expansion card. Asus claims that vertical mounting allows for more air to hit the drive so it doesn't throttle. While M.2 cards do throttle when they get hot, I don't think they need to be mounted vertically to get enough air. I used the PCIe card on the lowest slot and was able to get proper airflow to cool the drive. I think this is a better mounting option and doesn't get in the way.
This motherboard overclocks Broadwell-E processors relatively well, and for most people, the processor itself will be the limiting factor rather than the motherboard itself. I was able to get a 6850k to be stable around 4.3 GHz, but not any higher.
Because it's an ATX mobo, it feels a bit cramped. I was using an EATX before, so I had more space to work with. However, it's still pretty good and I like that I can fit it inside a smaller case. I like that the colors are neutral, so they should go well with any color scheme. I went with a black and white build, and it looks very clean. This is a great price for a fully featured motherboard. If you have the Deluxe, then I don't think it's worth upgrading to the II; you're not getting that much more, however, if you're jumping onto X99 right now, give this board some thought.
I ordered this product at the end of September 2016, along with other products to build a new machine, since my old machine was getting little old (4yrs). After a lot of research, I decided to get this motherboard as it had all the specs I wanted, and decided not to focus on all the negative reviews here on Amazon as well as Newegg, figuring that most of the negative reviews were from people that did not have much experience building computers. I've been a I.T. professional for 12 years, so I have built, troubleshot and replaced hundreds if not thousands of computers/components over the years. Luckily my job allows me to work from home most of the time, since I can do most everything I need from there, as long as I have a decent machine that runs 24/7.
At the beginning of October I had all components and proceeded with the build. The build went pretty smooth, with some little quirks here and there, which were easily figured out by reading the manual more in depth to figure out which slots have shared lanes. After getting everything figured out and testing all components, the build up was complete and I was up and running. After about 2 weeks, running 24/7, the computer locked up overnight. Seemed kind of strange, but hey it happens. The next night the same thing happens, so now I know this wasn't just a fluke. Go through all the logs to see about finding out what's going on, but there is not much detail. Go through all the drivers and make sure everything is completely up to date. Everything seems fine for the next 3 weeks until the same occurrence happens again, the machine locks up randomly a couple of nights in a row and once during the middle of the day when I'm working. A new BIOS release is out, and I find a few more driver updates have been released by Intel, Nvidia, and others. Go through the update process again, and all seems good for a while.
Then on January 23rd, 3 months after building the machine, I wake up to a computer that is off. Take a look around the house the see if any clocks are flashing, as maybe there was a power outage overnight, but no that doesn't seem to be the case. Push the power button to turn the computer back on, fans start then shut down after 2 seconds. This doesn't seem good. Push the power button again, fans start to spin, power back down, then start to spin again running full speed this time, but no signal on the monitor and no HDD activity LED. Decide to open the case and start the hardware troubleshooting. Re-seat all power connections, RAM, drive cables to make sure nothing has come loose. All seems good, so I plug the power back in and press the power button watching the board to see if I get any q-codes/error codes. Fans spin up, shut down, then spin up to full speed just as before. All I get on the board is a q-code of 00 and a red LED on the CPU LED on the motherboard. A quick Google search to see what the 00 code is, as I'm too lazy to grab the manual that's 6ft away from me, and find page after page of people having similar issues with other ASUS boards. Most common fix is checking power connections, which had already been done, but it seems that code seems most commonly to be that the motherboard can't find the processor. Google some more and the most common fix, "RMA the motherboard".
Decide that I would verify my power connections again, which are all good. Get the multimeter out to start testing voltages, which are all perfectly in-line with where they should be. Verify that no pins are bent on the processor socket, which they shouldn't be as the board has been running for 3 months. Finally I decide that its time to suck it up and call ASUS. This is where the real fun begins.
Call ASUS and get a customer support guy that asks for my name, phone number and starts out with the basics of "did you verify you have power?" Finally convince the guy that maybe i have a little more experience than the average user, so the line by line guide he is following is going to do nothing but waste both of our time, so he transfers me to the tier 2 support. Tier 2 support gets on the line and asks a few questions about the details on my issue, and immediately jumps to its time to RMA the board. This is great that I've only wasted 30 mins of my time on the phone and not hours, but a little concerning that tier 2 only needed a couple of questions before jumping straight to RMA territory. Could that mean that this is a common issue with this board? I soon got my answer as I asked to do the ASUS Rapid Replacement, since I need this machine to do my job, to which I was told that they have none of these boards in stock to be able to do the Rapid Replacement.
How can this be? This board was released in May 2016, and is one of the newest X99 boards that ASUS has released. Here we are only 7 months later and ASUS has no boards to ship, no new, no refurbs?
So this is where I am at as of right now. I had to dig my now 4 1/2 yr old machine out of mothballs so I could send the board to ASUS (shipping on my dime as shipping isn't part of the warranty) so I could continue to work. I was told that once received, it would take between 7 to 10 business days for my board to be "fixed". I will update this review when I see any kind of status change.
Update 3/15/2017:
Finally after 19 days (2/12/2017) I received an email from ASUS with tracking information. The email did not make it very clear as to what ASUS had done to correct my issue, so I had to go to the support website to see if there were any further details. Finally I was able to figure out that ASUS had decided to replace the board. On 2/16/2017 I finally received the replacement board, which came in a generic white box, not in the retail box that I had shipped my board with. This leads me to believe that what I received was a refurb, and not a new board, but there is nothing in the box to either confirm or deny if this is the case.
I spent the weekend re-installing the board, and doing some major stress testing to see if any issue would crop up. Now at almost on month after receiving my replacement motherboard, I am happy to report that my computer seems to be completely stable. I have not had one single lock up so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will have a running system for longer than 3 months this time around.

"2 x USB 2.0 connector(s) support(s) additional 4 USB 2.0 port(s)"
Each header provides two USB 2.0 ports. This is great, since I would be able to connect a multi card reader to one of the ports. My water cooler hogs a whole USB 2 header. No idea why it can't just use a single port, but c'est la vie. At least I have two headers! Or do I?
I searched every square millimeter on this motherboard, but could only find one USB 2.0 header!
I checked online tech discussions, and turns out no one else can find the 2nd one. Maybe they should put its picture on a milk carton.
