MSI Godlike OC Tournament: Ambient 3D Battle

The MSI GODLIKE OC Tournament in partnership with Intel and HyperX gives a chance to all MSI users to Battle like a God and win an incredible MSI GODLIKE OC Setup, including the latest MSI X99A GODLIKE GAMING, Intel Core i7, and HyperX gear!
The competition continues with the 3D Battle from August 30th to September 20th, 00:00 GMT+0. To give everyone a chance to win, both Ambient and Extreme cooling are separated in 2 categories. For 3D Battle, Ambient cooling users will have to compete in 3 different benchmarks stages using IGP which are 3DMark Fire Strike, Catzilla 720P and 3DMark Cloud Gate. As for Extreme cooling users they compete with MSI GTX 960 graphic cards in 3DMark Fire Strike, Catzilla 720P and Unigine Heaven Extreme.

I would like to know the dates when Stage 1 opens and when it closes. Thanks.
wallpapers are those for the benchmark 2D?
Yes, same wallpapers, as there are no new ones and comp already started
Important info for contestants
IGP means the integrated graphics unit of the cpu - you are not allowed to use a discrete vga like some have for the start
Link for definition of different vga types here
There is no wallpaper for stage 1 (2d or 3d)
Wallpapers now available.
I've also disabled submission with non-IGP
Thanks
After a question about Broadwell, it is not allowed and rules will be clarified, on HWMonitor - launch only after benchmark is enough, idle temps will be lower than load anyway, at least I accepted this for 2D and will not change for 3D
P.S. please do not forget CPUZ spd tab and make sure it displays info - I had to remove some scores from 2d battle because of this and I am not happy about it, the contestants lost their results due to sloppy rule reading
which intel driver can be used? 3dmark not recognize the latest drivers
the temperature of the integrated graphics you have to see (gpuz max temperature) or just HWMonitor?
HWMonitor is enough, GPU is in cpu - on the driver, try several different ones, sorry, on this I cannot help you
thanks
other competitors are waiting until the last minute
I'm trying my best to learn on how to improve IGP preformance don't really have any knowledge other then what most electronic stores will tell you about IGP vs dedicated GPUs to get you to spend more if you don't know anything about computers
I'm no IGP expert, but I might have some advice for you
IGP tuning is actually pretty straightforward, maximise its IGP clock, and memory performance matters a LOT(especially in AMD's IGP).
1) For Intel's IGP solution, for example HD 4600 found in i7 Haswell, the frequency of the IGP is found on the 'GT Ratio' on MSI's motherboard, this is a 'multiplier', and you get IGP Frequency from this formula:
IGP Frequency = GT Ratio * (BCLK/2)
So basically on 100Mhz BCLK, every 1 GT ratio increase will give you 50Mhz more IGP Frequency.
The one voltage that's responsible for the IGP is the GT Voltage (IGP Volt or Vaxg in some mobo). You can really push the IGP volts, 1.35-1.4V is quite safe for this and will give around 1550-1600Mhz IGP frequency or more. Got a better cooling and you can crank this up
2)After finding your maximum GT ratio for 3D benchmarks, time to maximise performance from your memory system, if you can do 2800CL9 with typical samsung timings you'll do fine. IGP OC tend to favor more on frequency instead of timings on most cases
3)Lastly, when your IGP GT Ratio and Memory Frequency is maxxed out, time to do some fine tuning with BCLK. Increase 1 - 2 Mhz here will give you that extra 15-20 Mhz you'll probably need for competition purposes.
Oh, and if you're on ambient cooling, sometimes reducing CPU OC can gain just a little bit of IGP frequency. If your benchmark doesn't require high CPU scores, you might try lowering your cpu oc & cpu volts a bit to gain IGP frequency.
(useful for GPU-bound scenarios, like 3DMark Fire Strike on HD4600 .But on 3DMark Cloud Gate CPU speed is still needed)
Well, hope that helped. Good Luck
So, Broadwell is not allowed? Great!
Because, it is not available in Indonesia. T_T
I'm waiting for the updated rules page.
No, Broadwell is out, and Pieter will get the job done soon
helped me a lot man thanks for the tips already improved my scores by just about 100pts! wish i had some helpful stuff to tell you but i'm sure you know more than me about OCing haha
and just want to be safe... now that i'm using the CPU for a GPU too what temps do i have to worry about? because i know most people say stay away from 70c+ when OC a CPU but what about IGP and CPU together?
i7 4790k imc has degraded ....
motherboard z97m max power is broken, the Laing DDC pump 12V 1plusT broke. luckily the cpu is still alive but I can not do in 2800 CL9 with the other motherboard I (Z97 gene asus) I have another i7 4790k but not very lucky
.
I ordered a new Z97 mpower from "amazon" delivery tomorrow (that is broken has been rejected, I wanted to send it but I told the truth and therefore was denied the guarantee)
the image is in Italian
I don't know if everyone knows about this but I came across a forum on Tomshardware the other day and someone gave a useful like for a protection plan from Intel for OCing CPUs
heres the link here http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/
it covers quite a few CPUs for a small fee and one time of course but hopefully it will let people feel a little more comfortable OCings
I used that for some of my retail cpus, making CPU RMA in my place way easier and no questions asked
i7 4790k is delid , Performance tuning plan doesn't cover any physical modifications.
hey george I know you said in early comments that you were not going to compete in 3D part of this comp but I just wanted to let you know I went back to the 2D submission page and saw that they deleted people submissions, so i recounted my points and a few of the top runner ups...
Ivan and Raules still have their 44 pts (but i'm not sure who's in first/second)
3rd Nvidia_forever has 41pts
4th is you have 28 pts
5th is me with 25 pts
so i thought id give you a heads up if you still wanted to try a little IGP OCing for this comp and maybe win something
good luck to everyone tho
Rules have been reworked so that they are more precise(Thanks, Pieter), you only need one gpuz tab, sensor gpuz tab not mandatory, hwmonitor covers cpu temp and therefore also igp, please do not forget mainboard and spd tab when you screen results
A verification link is required for catzilla ?
Verification Link is not mandatory, so not required
tweak loading time ?
The general rules for Catzilla apply, as long as you stay in these limits you are free to tweak whatever you want - also loading time, I guess this is a legit tweak
too much voltage reduces the final score, you have to find the right balance between the different frequency: GPU, memory and cpu.
not recommend going over 1.35volt (IGP) gets too hot
No problem ;] didn't feel right if I got ahead of you without you knowing you had a chance or someone else taking your spot.
goodluck
A verification link to the score on 3DMark.com. You can validate from the benchmark application and get a verification link to the score.
Let me know if you need to assistance!
I wanted to see if you can still participate in all tests, and last all was qualified to the final competition, I think if there is any stage of closed should enable it to others can participate, is one recommendation
If this is "ambient" testing are you allowed to use a bucket of ICE Water to run your water loop through to cool it below ambient temperature first?
Yes, cpu temps are specified by rules
I made a preliminary check on results, one sub had to be blocked (explanation was sent), sunday stage ends, so keep on benching
Edit I did final, in depth check, two more subs gone, result is final from my side
