Being a Thursday we are happy to once again take you back in time to a day in 2013 when the Overclocking community was coming to terms with the arrival of Nvidia’s first ever Geforce GTX Titan cards. Legends Andre Yang and Shamino put together a truly ‘Titanic’ rig that featured a Sandy-Bridge-E Core i7 3970X pushed way out to 5.9GHz plus a quad-SLI array of LN2 Titan cards with GPUs tuned to 1,450MHz (+73.24%) and graphics memory pushed to 1,775MHz (+18.33%). The end result was a World Record 3DMark11 Performance score of 37,263 marks, a score that beat rival K|ngp|n by 2,000 points! Here’s what we wrote back on March 14th 2013:

“It took a while before the words of K|ngp|n became reality, but it finally happened! Combining a solid 4-Way GeForce GTX Titan system with an equally impressive Core i7 3970X clocked to 5.9GHz (yes, five point nine!), AndreYang and Shamino managed to push the 3DMark11 Performance record two thousand points higher than K|ngp|n's previous record. The graphics card are very heavily modified, zombified as some call it, with a Matrix PWM attached to the reference PCB. This shows once again that the GTX Titan will need a much better than reference design to really shine. A pity for a USD $1000 graphics card, to be honest.”

It’s interesting to reflect on just how much more performance we are treated to today compared to just three years ago. The current World Record for 3DMark11 Performance is 58,179 marks, a score submitted by Russian legend slams using 4x GeForce 980 Ti cards.
