With the Transformer beating my stock Shield by ~10% without an overclock using the same Tegra 4, I figured it was less to do with the OS and more to do with the CPU profile (my smaller form-factor throttling). I wiped and rooted the Shield and started there with the default OS. No overclocking applied... yet. :-)
