we tried to find best possible config and benchmarks to avoid binning. but as we know is not possible but still :D

Could limit cpu and ram frequency to rule out binning, then surely its based on tuning ability??

I thought this hobby was called extreme overclocking? Not extreme limiting? :D

Yeah of course, but i thought the comp was based on tuning ability?? I am not fortunate enough like many others to have "extreme" funding for binning or be given hand picked hardware. I'd welcome any challenge on a level playing field and i dont doubt anyones ability's from the very bottom to the very top of the leagues. Everybody has earned there place.

websmile says:

I am not sure if I saw this correctly, but the cpu seems to be limited to Pentium G3420 - what else do you want as limit? A 50 euro cpu with locked multiplicator

Hiwa says:

nickolp1974 said: Could limit cpu and ram frequency to rule out binning, then surely its based on tuning ability??

limiting frequency with Pentium K CPU was our first choice but its kinda impossible or very difficult to valid scores. only way was taking video form everything and every moment specially 32m ( all loops) but that required two persons and maybe 10 hours video..... imagine all the crashes etc. so we decided to switch to try cheap locked CPU higher bclk and a lot of skill wins.

for both cases K fixed freq or locked CPU Ln2 on both CPU and memory needed.

It is limited :)

Is the grand final all about your own hardware again?

yes.

be careful its actually

Intel Pentium G3240 CPU

G3420 does exist as well but we are not using that. :)

I like the limted multi will have to push bclk as well as use PSC/Samsung/MFR

only thing I dont like is must use ASUS motherboard because they are the only one that can push high bclk but thats not their fault lol!

United Kingdom ObscureParadox says:

See this is easily the best qualifier I think we've had in terms of levelling the playing field. Good on G.Skill for this one, looking forward to it :)

Hungary Achill3uS says:

awesome contest from G.Skill, i like the way of idea. best tweaker wins. Sam, you are that 6th guy :p but please confirm its G3240 or G3420 CPU!

United States Gunslinger says:

kind of odd that their biggest contest of the year is pushing old tech such as DDR3 when they could be showcasing the new DDR4 hardware.

Gunslinger said: kind of odd that their biggest contest of the year is pushing old tech such as DDR3 when they could be showcasing the new DDR4 hardware.

Might be because close to noone except sponsored guys and a few people with too much money are interested in new tech that is only supported by very limited amount of systems, using this for qualifier would kill the spirit I see in the decision to use G3240^^- not sure this will change as fast a some hoped a while ago
@Achill3us It is actual 3240, I just switched digits because I had one of the other model for quite a long time, my mistake^^

ddr4 and x99 is still expensive, and performing still poor even with well binned kits. i think if they want the most ppl to enter the competition locked cpu and ddr3 was the best choice for a good tweak contest.

i was asking for confirmation bcoz PJ corrected me on facebook exactly about this question. so need to wait for hiwa to answer.

ddr4 for final where gskill can help and sponsor the winners.

United States steponz says:

it is 3240 that is to be used for this contest.. big difference in price....

@ Splave i heard gbt can do high bclk. dinos can confirm?

Do I want the Gene or Impact?

United States Mikecdm says:

Everyone talking about x99 being too expensive, what about paying your way to computex.?

United Kingdom ObscureParadox says:

Still better than buying X99 to get a ticket to the competition in computex.

South Africa Vivi says:

i like these rules! I don't see how binning will benefit here unless you are super rich. ive ordered one memory kit of 4. and thats already pushing my budget, will buy 2 x 3240 and then sell and rebuy if i must. But these rules are fantastic in my opinion. anyone can play

I think he's asking more in terms of high BCLK or not.

Australia zeropluszero says:

As was I basically. I feel like this might even come down to quality of ram really.

you are very wrong :D

websmile says:

I took a deeper look at maxmem read bandwidth rules and results, you don´t have to be Einstein I think to see that leading results at database are bugged , when I see overall score of 360k+ this is as if I submit a 1100k fse score and claim it is legit but I also remember staff approved this. So how will this be handled at the gskill contest and in general in the future, is interesting for me also because of another contest which I might enter

United States rtsurfer says:

Vivi said: you are very wrong :D

I'll be very pleasantly surprised if what you say, turns out to be true.

United Kingdom ObscureParadox says:

This can be all sorts of ICs really, PSC, Samsung even CFR/MFR

TaPaKaH says:

Vivi said: you are very wrong :D
These CPUs don't have straps so IMC max is ~1550MHz (1466 + BCLK) which can be done with PSC (for Maxxmem).

Romania Alex@ro says:

1550 for 7-10(11)-7 psc all tight on great modules and imc should be win, unless someone pulls a CFR run out with better results...

Hungary Achill3uS says:

what can a CFR do against PSC or Samsung with its poor efficiency and according to Sam limited by ~1550mhz range. i have some very good CFRs, and clocks nice, but slow as hell.

Australia zeropluszero says:

Frozen CFR gets pretty tight
http://hwbot.org/submission/2739009_

Hungary Achill3uS says:

wow, i missed this... according to Shimizu-san my CFRs are not that good :D

TaPaKaH says:

Yes, but every single timing aside from tRAS can go much lower on PSC. You don't even need a good set of PSC to make it happen, Maxxmem is nowhere near 32M in terms of memory stability so you might even get a lowend kit to do 1500+.

South Africa Vivi says:

going to be such an epic battle, YES PLEASE

United States l0ud_sil3nc3 says:

MFR is going to killl the maxmem stage, PSC no need for this one just 32M and physics.

United Kingdom ObscureParadox says:

Sam OCX said: These CPUs don't have straps so IMC max is ~1550MHz (1466 + BCLK) which can be done with PSC (for Maxxmem).

You expect only around 105MHz from the BCLK then? This is where I think you're wrong and the other memory types are still going to be important as the very best CPUs will be getting 110MHz which is 3200MHz+ ram.

I'm not stating this as fact just curious as to why it wouldn't achieve the same sort of BCLK as the i3's and am more than happy to be educated as to why this may be.

Australia Jimba says:

so what is the recommend configurations for the stages? Would a giga SOC force (non LN2) be good? and a kit of MFR/CFR and PSC?

Yeah,I've only tested one chip and close to 109 bclk on this one

Not sure what the CB are like on these but mine is -75 and you need all the cold you can get,it makes all the difference in the bclk scaling.
