Today we interview OCTeamFinland, the Finnish team which is able to keep up with the giants, despite the fact that it’s one of the smallest countries participating. Its secret? A united Finnish front, cold ambient temperatures, and an hell-of-a-lot rotary phase change units!
hwbot: Who do we have the pleasure to talk with?
OCTF: All the OCTF captains were given the questions and then something emerged from the resulting mess. Current OCTF captains are Boble76, Dani, mtzki and SF3D.
hwbot: Could you give a short introduction to your team?
OCTF: OCTeamFinland, SO COLD.
hwbot: How did the team get started?
OCTF: mtzki founded it in 4/2006. OCTF is nothing other than a hwbot team. It was named Muropaketti before, having it’s origin in the leading Finnish hw site/forum owned by Sampsa. Then we thought it would be good to possibly get all the Finnish overclockers under the same flag to the hwbot competition. So the name was changed and the team is basically independent from all other Finnish communities. All very welcome to join it, that is. Announcements regarding the team are given mostly at the Muropaketti forum.
hwbot: How have you been doing in the competition?
OCTF: 4th to 6th place have become familiar in the overall ranking lately with boints around 1800. We’ve had many podium places in single rankings before, but those have been hard to keep or achieve lately. The PiFast competition gave us second place and we were actually pretty close to winning it. So all in all, quite well. Pretty safe to say we are by now among the more established teams in the competition. In the amount of registered members in hwbot OCTF is actually second largest after XS.
hwbot: Famous members in your team?
OCTF: There are some stars of the scene like macci, The Stilt and Sampsa. They may not be the most active members to date, but definitely a hugely important part of the team.
hwbot: Secret weapons of your team?
OCTF: Cold ambients. LittleDevil from Slovenia could be called an honorary member. Our members have ordered an army of phase change units made by him, with team stickers on sides. LD also designed our team banner when making those stickers.
hwbot: Upcoming plans for going up the rankings?
OCTF: Going up the rankings might well be possible. Forum and web pages are in the making and hopefully should help in promoting the team. Getting some visibility in Finnish media might be great too. And competitions to members with some prizes, have to find sponsor(s) for that first though. And we’ll get some LD units sooner or later. (the first batch got completely smashed in delivery)
hwbot: How’s the ocing scene in your country?
OCTF: Pretty active. For a 5M population, we do quite well in this business.
hwbot: Does your team concentrate on some specific benchmarks?
OCTF: For some reason we seem to be doing better in cpu benchmarks. With Futuremark originating from Finland and everything, we should really improve our 3D. Lots to do there.
hwbot: Have you done anything special to motivate your team members?
OCTF: We give an “OCTF overclocking doctor” title to our active and successful members. Besides the members mentioned already, paakkis, THL and ziberia have achieved this doctor status.
hwbot: What does hwbot bring to this hobby in your opinion?
OCTF: Lots of sense of achievement offered to its users by many novel ways. Much fun, that is.
hwbot: Anything you would like to change or add in hwbot?
OCTF: A few things come up every now and then. But with mtzki and SF3D in the hwbot crew we have a somewhat direct channel to let the bot development know them.
hwbot: Do you have a message to send to your team members?
OCTF: Every boint counts!
hwbot: Thank you for your time!
