MSI announces the latest "MSI Precision Master" OC contest, hosted on HWBOT. The Precision Master OC Contest includes three benchmarks and overclockers are challenged to hit a specific target score in each of the stages. The winner is chosen amongst the people who hit the target. In case the target score was not achieved by anyone, the closest score is eligible. The target score cannot be exceeded. The prizes include the designated MOA 2013 motherboard, the MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX, and a MSI R7970 Graphics card. One Z87 MPOWER MAX motherboard will be given away amongst all participants. Overclocking enthusiasts, don’t miss this!

Duration

Start: March 24th, 11:00 GMT+8
End: April 14th, 10:00 GMT+8

Stage

Stage 1: 3DMark 06 (Mar 24 11:00 GMT+8 - Mar 30 10:00 GMT+8), Target: 12345 marks
Stage 2: Heaven DX11 (Mar 30 11:00 GMT+8 - Apr 7 10:00 GMT+8), Target: 2828.28 marks
Stage 3: 3DMark Fire Strike (Apr 7 11:00 GMT+8 - Apr 14 10:00 GMT+8), Target: 15431 marks

Rules

Any MSI motherboard. Use 1 CPU.
MSI graphics card. Multi-GPU is allowed.
Contestants can try to hit the target score for each stage.
The stage prize will be given away to a lucky winner chosen amongst all who hit the target
If no one hits the target score, the closest one (but not higher!) will be the winner.
Please attach a picture of your overclocking rig.
A verification screenshot is required.
A verification link is required (system info must be available!)
Must use official contest background (download)
Screenshot must contain: CPU-Z CPU tab, CPU-Z motherboard tab, CPU-Z memory tab, GPU-Z, benchmark (subtest) score(s) and settings, official background.

Winners

Stage 1: A MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX motherboard.
Stage 2: A MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX motherboard.
Stage 3: A MSI R7970 TF 3GD5/OC BE graphics card.
Lucky draw: A MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX motherboard chosen amongst all participants.

As this is an official level 1 competition, competitors will receive season points for the final ranking as following.

I have no MSI HW so I'm locked out. There are 4 major mobo brands and more than 8 GPU vendors so very few people will have both an MSI GPU and MB. Plus this comp is aimed at normal people(LN2 is not very useful) who can't afford to buy a new GPU and MB just to participate.

Clearly he is meaning the branding restrictions. Obviously cuts down on participants if you need BOTH to be MSI branded. Spend $XXX for a shot at a sub $250 board? The idea is good to spread brand recognition but poorly executed. You'd think they'd want people who have older gen hardware to get newer MSI branded hardware from the comp to try to breed brand loyalty.

That's a good idea for a competition actually^. Set an achievable score in a benchmark, ie the 12345 in 3DM06, and to win it, get closest with the oldest hardware. It'd be dead simple for a 4770k and 780ti to get that score at low clocks, but much harder for a Q6600 and GTX280 for instance.

^Noting this down for future OCAU comps.

Good point but I still disagree with how some of these comps are brand limited. Seems backwards marketing as I stated before.

I was referring to the integrated Kaveri GPU, not a discrete Radeon R7, from there the doubt...

Integreated GPU is not a videocard and it's from AMD. So I guess it's not allowed.

Why not if it is running on an MSI mobo. It's basically similar to soldering a gpu provided by AMD on a MSI videocard PCB, but in this case it is on a socket. In both cases the gpu is manufactured by AMD.

Plsu if you open GPUZ your integrated vga will have the mobo vendor.

Not to mention that if your card is a reference model it might be produced by e.g. Sapphire and MSI put only a sticker on it.

Fill out MSI vendor under GPU name. Integrated graphics has always been a bit weird, but traditionally people full out the MB vendor name in the GPU vendor field.

Just because someone submitted with a low end card, for a comp that needs a low scores, doesn't mean that they don't have higher end cards.

3dmk Firestrike marks of 15431 is a world record to achieved on a single GPU for 290/x on LN2.

You will be in the Top 20 ranking to achieved 15431 with 780Ti.

I think the score is beyond most of us to think even about it for single GPu.

...You need to CF or Sli.
