Intel Redesigning Core i7 980X Stock HSF

I understand that a perforated impeller could improve the performance of the fan, but doesn't putting a sticker over the holes make the cooler "un-perforated" again? Or am I missing something here?

Next month Intel is going to ship its first and only desktop hexa-core processor, the Core i7-980X with a modified cooler which is supposed to be both quieter and better performing than the current version. To lower the sound output of the cooler Intel has dubbed down the thickness of the impeller trailing edge of the fan blades to just 0.3mm, while for added performance it has perforated the impeller hub. The Core i7-980X with start shipping together with the improved cooling solution on June 7.
