Our next entry in the Overclocker Profile series brings us to one the World’s true ambassadors of the sport, the one and only DrWeez. DrWeez is without doubt the biggest name in South African overclocking, a country not always recognized for its overclocking talent. As DrWeez prepares himself for his second attempt at a World Championship, let’s take a look at the man behind the LN2 flask and also recall how he managed to qualify for the OCWC contest.

The Man Behind the LN2 Flask: DrWeez (South Africa)

Andrew ‘DrWeez’ Roberts is an Elite League HWBOT member who currently ranks as No.2 in his native South Africa, and No. 53 in the overall World Rankings on HWBOT. He is a Team Captain of Team South Africa along with his friend and current South African No.1, Vivi. He has been an active member of HWBOT for more than eight years.

Andrew is certainly one of Overclocking’s most proactive members. His YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch accounts reveal a ton of live streams and videos where Andrew gives a fly-on-the-wall view of what extreme overclocking actually involves. His relaxed on-camera style and his attention to detail makes him the perfect evangelist and guru to many up and coming overclockers. Take for example his recent exploits with the ASUS ROG Overclocking Masterclass series where he invited groups of journalists, bloggers and YouTubers to his home to teach them how to Overclock systems using LN2. Talk about dedication…

The Road to the OCWC 2017 Final

Drweez earned his seat at the OCWC Final by competing in the OCWC Cape Town 2017 Qualifier contest which took place at Electronics and Gaming Expo (EGE) back in July of this year. The Qualification phase on Day 1 of the contest was dominated by DrWeez who pulled off two out of three stage wins. In the first Semi-Final head to head match he was pitted against his old mate and long time competitor Vivi.

Semi Final 1: DrWeez vs Vivi – Here we find the two highest ranked Overclockers in South Africa take the stage. The country’s No.1 ranked overclocker Vivi faced the No.2 ranked overclocker DrWeez. The benchmark draw threw up the popular Cinebench R15 benchmark which is well known for responding well to pure CPU frequency. Vivi appeared to have a few problems, managing a high score of only 1,272 points while DrWeez came flying out of the traps with an initial score of 1,206, quickly raising to 1,342 points. By the end of the session DrWeez had hit a very impressive score of 1,418 cb points, quite far ahead of ViVi. DrWeez had made it to the Final.
