The OC Show Season 4, Episode 13 - Coffee Lake Launch i7-8700K, i5-8600K, i3-8350K

The OC Show returned just a few days ago with Troufman being joined once again by Buildzoid and Toolius for a really good discussion about all things OC-related. The topic of conversation in this week’s Episode 13 is pretty straight forward to grasp, it’s the launch of the latest processor platforms from Intel. Regardless of Intel’s motives it’s clear to all of us that the company has sped up its release cycle somewhat in the last few months. The Core-X series was recently expanded to include 14-core, 16-core and 18-core options, which was followed up just last week with launch of the latest Coffee Lake series of chips and the all new shiny Z370 mainstream consumer series. Plenty to discuss for sure.

The guys kick off with a discussion related to the updated X299 series and the new truly high-end Skylake-X series CPUs that Intel launched a few weeks ago. Toolius points out how the new chips have certainly made an impact here HWBOT with 7 World Records and a whopping 27 Global First Place scores falling in just a matter of 24 hours. While there’s no doubting the truly awesome performance that the new Core i9 7980XE is capable of, Buildzoid takes a moment to remind us about just how utterky insane these new CPUs are in terms of power draw and temperatures. New performance levels do not always arrive without a price.

The we get to the launch of Coffee Lake. Again we saw a bunch of World records and Global First Place scores arrive right on time for the balloons and tickertape parade. However, some sections of the media are not entirely convinced that the new platform is such a brilliant deal. The guys chew over the technical advantages Coffee Lake brings and the more subtle differences we may experience from an Overclocking perspective.
