Just a few days ago we came to the end of the Rookie Rumble #47 contests on OC-ESPORTS. At the end of the contest we find Swiss Rookie G4rfi3ld taking the win, while in the AMD Rumble #41 Austria’s Sufferage reigns supreme. Let’s take a look at the scores and submissions made and the hardware that was overclocked by the current batch of Rookie HWBOT members.

Rookie Rumble #47: August 12th to September 2nd 2017

Firstly, let’s have a quick recap of what the Rookie Rumble contest series is all about. The core idea is to give Rookie, Novice and Apprentice-class HWBOT members a place where they can compete against each other on a level playing field. For this reason Enthusiast, Extreme and Elite Overclockers are not eligible to compete. Round #47 of the contest was set up with three stages featuring the following benchmarks; Intel XTU, HWBOT Prime and GPUPI for CPU 100M. Let’s check out each stage in a little more detail.

Stage 1: Intel XTU

As with all Rookie Rumble contests, Stage 1 is centered on the popular Intel XTU benchmark, a real favorite with many Rookie Overclockers because of its simplified GUI and integrated submission process. One interesting quirk about XTU stage of this contest is that the eventual score produced by the benchmark is divided by the number of cores present on the CPU used, a fact that means you might want to avoid HEDT platform CPUs with more than 4-cores.

At the top of the table we find Castle, the current No.1 Rookie league overclocker from Australia. Castle managed a score of 467.25 marks per core (1,869 marks total) using an Intel Core i7 7700K pushed to a very decent 5,310MHz which is +26.43% beyond stock settings. Other features of his rig include a GIGABYTE Z270N-Gaming 5 Mini-ITX motherboard.

Second place goes to our eventual Round winner G4rfi3ld (Switzerland) with a score of 464.75 marks per core (1,859 in total) with his Core i7 7700K clocked 5,250MHz (+25.00%). In terms of motherboard G4rfi3ld opted for an ASUS ROG Maximus IX Apex board. Third place belongs to last month’s #46 winner prote1n (France) with a score of 460 marks per core (1,843 in total). He also opted for a Kaby Lake quad core i7 7700K which he pushed to 5,280MHz (+25.71%). G4rfi3ld managed a better score despite having marginally lower clock speed - perhaps DDR4 memory settings were the deciding factor.
