The OC Show, Season 4 Episode 5: OC-ESPORTS Update, OGS Rampage, Cape Town 2017 and AMD Threadripper

The OC Show returned to our Twitch TV screens once again last Friday with Episode 5 having Ciro, Toolius and Buildzoid again chew over the most recent Overclocking related topics. The guys kick off with a look at the contests that are currently running on the OC-ESPORTS platform. It’s noticeable that the GIGABYTE Beat the Heat contest has picked up considerably with 30 Overclockers now competing for a prize pool of $2,500 USD. There’s also a chat about the /r/overclocking team who are now competing in the HWBOT Team Cup (where they currently sit in fifth place) and how they are facing life without their previous captain Buildzoid who has now joined the Alza OC Team.

There’s also a discussion about OGS from Greece who managed to propel himself to fourth place in the HWBOT rankings by making a bunch of impressive score submissions including four Global First Place scores in dual-core and quad-core rankings. The discussion includes a chat about how a relatively small country like Greece can manage to have two world class overclockers in the top ten.

The guys also talk about the HWBOT World Tour which spent last weekend at EGE in Cape Town, South Africa. While DrWeez, Vivi and others compete in the Overclocking World Championship contest, the event also offers a chance for newbies to get involved. The event hosts Overclocking Workshops were gamers and enthusiasts can roll up and get expert tuition and learn the basics of CPU overclocking using the XTU benchmark. There’s also the opportunity to post you best score and try to win the Cape Town 2017 Ambient contest.

Another discussion point involves the news that AMD has posted pretty positive financial results for the first time in quite a while. Of course no discussion about AMD’s position in the market would be complete without talking about AMD’s recently launched Ryzen 3 processors, their forthcoming Threadripper platform and news that has surfaced about the Radeon RX Vega. The guys also discuss forthcoming Intel 16-core and 18-core offerings, the buzz around Coffee Lake architecture processors that should arrive later this year, plus news that EVGA are offering a Golden ticket for six lucky winners who will get to visit K|ngp|n in Taipei to learn extreme overclocking from the man himself.
