Buildzoid Extreme Overclocking Tutorial: Adding a Vcore Measurement Line

Buildzoid has recently been giving his fairly large YouTube following some basic guidance regarding some of the more fundamental techniques that extreme overclockers need to understand. Earlier this week he posted a video that explains how to use an oscilloscope and mulitimeter to test and come to terms with the VRM of a graphics card. Today he tackles the topic of how to attach a Vcore measurement line to a motherboard – one of the simplest and yet most vital hardware mods a budding extreme overclocker will ever undertake.

He kicks off by explaining that most extreme overclockers do not completely trust the voltage readings that you find offered from software. It’s true in fact that we all know that at times the BIOS, CPU-Z and other software based readings can simultaneously give contradictory readings, solid evidence that they simply cannot be trusted in terms of accuracy. The best way to accurately assess the voltage that is going to your CPU’s Vcore is by reading it from a mulitimeter. How do we do this? By adding a Vcore measurement line.

Buildzoid latest video shows you step-by-step how to modify your motherboard’s VRM so that direct and accurate readings can be made. He also explains the concept of Vdroop and how some motherboards use higher PCBs with more copper to ensure that reduce electrical resistance. After this we get down to some old fashioned soldering as he mods an ASRock X370 Taichi motherboard.

The video can be found here on the Actually Hardcore Overclocking YouTube channel. It will be a really good tutorial for anyone who wants to better his / her understanding of how to make accurate Vcore readings. Enjoy!
