Today the Ryzen lineup from AMD officially got expanded with the arrival of the company’s Ryzen 5 series processors. The new chips compete in the mainstream processor segment that has been dominated by Intel’s Core i5 processors for the best part of a decade. Although we are literally at day one, we can already see Ryzen 5 and the octa-core 1600X processor making its presence felt on the HWBOT score database. Elite German overclocker der8auer is among the first to post scores featuring the new Ryzen 5 1600X chip which certainly seems to be performing well, taking down four Global First Place scores in the 6-core rankings so far.

In Cinebench R11.5 Roman managed to push his AMD Ryzen 1600X from its 3.6GHz default clock to a tasty 5,437MHz, a very nice +51.03% beyond stock settings. This configuration scored 20.21 cb points in Cinebench R11.5, beating an Intel Core i7 5820K by 0.43 points – this is not bad at all considering the Haswell-E chip was pushed by Xtreme Addict (Poland) to 6,013MHz (+82.21%). Other features of the rig used by Roman include an ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero motherboard and a G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4 kit clocked at 1,546MHz (10-10-10-22).

In Cinebench R15 Roman set a new high score for a 6x core processor with a score of 1,837 cb points with the Ryzen 5 1600X configured at 5,445MHz (+51.25%). This beats the previous highest score for a 6-core CPU of 1806 cb points which again comes from Xtreme Addict using a Core i7 5820K , this time clocked at 5,989MHz (+81.48%).

In the GPUPI for CPU – 1B benchmark we find Roman and his Ryzen 5 rig managing a run of 2min 50sec 531ms, in this case the 1600X processor was pushed to 5,510MHz (+53.06%). A nice score when you consider that he nearest competing 6-core score comes from naruto80 (Italy) who managed a run of 2min 55sec 423ms with a Core i7 5820K at 6,258MHz (+89.64%). A 5 second lead in this benchmark is no small thing, no?

Finally in the Geekbench 3 Multi-Core benchmark we have a new Global First Placed 6-core score of 36,061 points with Roman’s Ryzen 5 1600X configured at 5,446MHz (+51.28%). This is way ahead of the Core i7 5820K which was pushed by XA to 5,900MHz (+78.79%) to hit a score of 34,980 points.

It’s important to bear in mind that the CPU used by Roman in these tests was an early sample, with benchmarking taking place several weeks ago. However, it seems the chip that he used was fairly decent. In terms of raw frequency Roman managed to push to his Ryzen 5 1600X chip to a pretty impressive 5905.64 Mhz. Whether or not these scores are indicative of the new Ryzen 5 series or not, time will tell. On day 1 however, things are looking pretty good.
