Buildzod has just uploaded another video in his PCB Breakdown series, this time taking on the new and shiny ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti STRIX graphics card. The first thing that is apparent is that he really, really wants one. Why? Well aside from the fact that it pretty much features the best performing consumer grade graphics processor on the market at the moment, it also has a beautifully crafted 10-phase VRM. Exactly the thing that gets hardcore overclockers drooling.

The 10-phase VRM is achieved using a doubling scheme with a uPI voltage controller used in a 5x two phase array. Buildzoid goes on to examine the MOSFETS and other components that ultimately give the GP102 GPU and the 11GB GDDR5X memory chips a whopping 600A of power delivery. This is pretty much overkill for everyday operation in your average gaming rig, but of course it does offer plenty of headroom in OC terms.

The ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX is one of a few 1080 Ti cards that are due to hit the market in a few weeks. As well as the slightly over-the-top VRM design, the card will arrive with a custom cooler that promises to be quieter than the FE version, plus a factory preset overclock of 1,708MHz, a decent 15% above default clocks. Interestingly it will also arrive with a two HDMI ports, two DisplayPort outputs and… a DVI output - something that Nvidia decided to remove on the Founders Edition GTX 1080 Ti card.
