[OC-ESPORTS] Gunslinger (US) Wins VRMark Challenge Contest

Just a few days ago we came to the conclusion of the VRMark Challenge on OC-ESPORTS. The contest was won by US Overclocker Gunslinger who was joined on the podium by fellow Americans jpmboy and Menthol who finished second and third respectively. Right now, we’re going to take a peek at the scores and submissions from both stages of the contest in a little detail.

VRMark Challenge: January 28th to February 28th 2017

The VRMark Challenge contest consisted of two separate stages, each based around elements of the VRMark benchmark suite from Futuremark. Stage 1 involved the Orange Room benchmark that is designed to assess if a PC meets the recommended hardware requirements for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR technologies. It’s not the most demanding benchmark, and certainly way less demanding than Blue Room benchmark used in Stage 2. The Blue Room benchmark uses a huge 5K rendering resolution coupled with spectacular volumetric lighting effects, all of which makes it one of the most demanding 3D benchmarks on the market today.

In terms of hardware limitations and rules for the contest, it was all very simple. Overclockers were allowed to use any processor (or indeed any number of processors) with any single GPU. What could be easier? In terms of possible tiebreaker situations, the Overclocker with the highest Blue Room score wins.
