In the second part of the ‘Meet the Finalists’ series we take a look at one of the most respected Overclockers from South Africa. Back in March of this year HWBOT setup shop at the rAge Cape Town gaming event, one of the largest LAN party events in the country. As well as proving to be a great spot to entice local gamers to give Overclocking a go for the first time, the World Series Extreme Overclocking contest also attracted some of the best OC talent on the continent.

DrWeez, or Andrew Roberts if you prefer, is the current No.1 in South Africa, just ahead of compatriot Vivi, arguably his closest rival in recent years. Indeed these two guys get on very well and share the responsibility of captaining the South Africa team.

As well as working hard to climb the Elite rankings both at home and in the HWBOT global rankings (where he now sits in 17th place overall), Andrew is also one of the most pro-active overclockers when it comes to evangelizing Overclocking. His YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch accounts reveal a ton of live streams and videos where Andrew gives us a unique fly-on-the-wall view of his Overclocking exploits.

Here’s a great example of his work; a video where he shows us almost an entire benching session as he attempts to qualify for the GOC Finals in Wuhan China next month. In Cape Town DrWeez found himself facing ShockG (known to us as the legendary Neo Sibeko) in the Semi-Final. Unfortunately due to technical reasons Neo was unable to compete and conceded the round to the Doc. South African No.2 Vivi managed to beat QuantumX in the other Semi-Final, paving the way for a 1v1 Final between South Africa’s two heavy weight overclockers. The XTU benchmark was drawn at random, an outcome which could well have favored Vivi who actually scored higher in XTU than DrWeez in the qualification round. However, despite some tense moments and a few BSODs, Andrew managed a solid win with a score of 1,856 points, just ahead of Vivi on 1,815 points.

When DrWeez rolls into town in Berlin, his thoughts will be honed on taking the win. As an active HWBOT member from 2009, he has plenty of experience and should certainly be regarded as a possible champion. In terms of hardware, Andrew will use an MSI Z170 motherboard paired with G.SKILL memory in the Final.
