Seeing as today is a Thursday, it’s time to bring you another moment in recent history with our Throwback Thursday series. Today we take you back in time to a moment when the HWBOT World Rankings saw a new face in the number one slot, a day when a Russian overclocker going by the moniker Smoke finally managed to conquer the world of Overclocking.

It was almost exactly five years ago to the day that Smoke managed to accrue a total points score of 1320.30 on the HWNOT World rankings, edging out Taiwan’s Nick Shih at the top of the table. Here’s what we wrote back in 2011:

“Simply no words for this outstanding achievement! It's been a very long time since we had a non-Taiwanese #1. Congratulations Smoke!”

Massman’s comments resonate because at this point in history the Taiwanese were very much in the ascendancy in the World Rankings. OC Legends such as Nick Shih, Hicookie and of course the mighty Andre Yang had pretty much dominated the scene around that time. A fact that which makes what Smoke did all the more impressive.

Another things that makes Smoke’s achievement all the more impressive is the fact that he is not only still active in the OC scene in Russia, but that he is still breaking records and has managed to retain his position as Russia’s No.1 overclocker.
