Non-K SKU overclocking may look like a very attractive prospect for entry-level overclockers who want to rock it like it’s 2003 and get the additional free performance out of Intel’s more affordable Core i5, i3 and even Pentium class processors, but in truth there are plenty of factors to consider. For those who are not aware of non-K OC: Depending on the CPU you can increase the clock between 15-70 % without any problems. In this quick guide I will explain how you can OC your non-K CPU on MSI Z170 boards. Several media reported some stuff about microcode updates, Intel blocking non-K OC and all kind of stuff. However, I can confirm that none of that stuff is true. You can still happily overclock your non-K CPU!In addition we found a way to read out the CPU temperature which was an issue before.”
