Hardware.info Overclocks MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning on Liquid Nitrogen (Dutch)

Rsnubje from the Hardware.info Pro OC team was able to overclock the MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning using liquid nitrogen in the days leading up to CES 2016. In an attempt to find out if the card lived up to the expectations, he order a dewar of LN2 and wrote down his findings in an article published in Dutch on Hardware.info.

Aided with systems sporting the MSI X99A XPower and MSI Z170 XPower Titanium motherboards, the card initially clocked up to 1758/2053 MHz and in combination with a 5.5GHz Core i7 6700K this resulted in 15th place Unigine Heaven Xtreme 1xGPU. In the last session, the Dutch overclocker switched to the X99 system and had the card flying at speeds of 1900/2050 MHz with 1.77V. This resulted in a 3DMark Fire Strike score of 24486 and again a place within the top-15 at HWBOT.

The system had a power meter attached to it and during the overclocking session the power draw peaked at over 1200W. According to Hardware.info, this is what they would typically see when running 4(!) graphics cards on air.
