Strat (France) Shares Findings on Hynix XOC with MSI Z170A Xpower Titanium
As more and more overclockers get their hands on the top-tier Skylake Z170 motherboards, we find more overclocking guides too. In the latest thread, Strat from France shares his findings on how to push Hynix MFR memory on the MSI Z170A Xpower Titanium motherboard.
The guide is short but to the point. With four BIOS screens Strat explains the configuration settings to use if you want to find the most optimal Hynix MFR memory configuration. The examples include a fully tuned set of main and sub-timings, as well as an indication of the voltage levels. Of course it largely depends on your individual components - CPU and memory - how much fine-tuning can be done from this base profile.
For more information, check out the thread in the Skylake Z170 sub-forum.

Hi folks,
Sharing is caring right?
Z170A Xpower is very strong on mem, at least on Hynix MFR/AFR (no other kit in my hand). Efficiency is right where it should be.
First of all (as usual) :
- Find the good temp for your mem. I can run -180° on mine but the best temp is -100°, this is where I can achieve 1830MHz 10-15-15-28-278 and 1870MHz 10-16-16-278
- Find the right amount of volt. Mine do not like more than 1.85v
Then you can try the set of timings I found, it is not perfect, but seems to be a good base :
With these settings and auto RTL/IO I get 44/45 5/5, sometimes 44/46 5/6.
I did a quick try at 5Ghz, this is what I got :
Full out run (i know my CPU is very bad ) :
Feedback is welcome! :celebration:

Nice of you to share! The msi board does seem nice.
How about RTL and IOL?
Strat sagt:
I forgot to mention that part, I edited the first post.

Nice work Strat! Next AFR ?

Those AFR should be cold already!
Finishing support thread today and OC Guide soon :celebration:

Msi seems to have done a great job. Have you got tests using Samsung ics?
pepinorang sagt:
Yeah, Toppc validated DDR4-4600 Dual Channel on this board: http://hwbot.org/submission/2939951_toppc_memory_clock_ddr4_sdram_2302.9_mhz
Tapakah also tested some G.Skill Ripjaws V (F4-3200C16D-8GVK) recently:
+1733 c13 Memtest stable:
+1800 c14 Memtest stable:
+1866 c15 Memtest stable:

I like the MB, thinking about getting one. But I see you are using special bios (T0P) and it does not seem to be available anywhere. Anyone willing to share?
Strat sagt:
No probs, i will upload it tomorrow. But I think a better one should come out soon.
Rauf sagt:
Thanks!
Command center light would be nice as well!

Next week indeed

Will post a thread with everything needed before end of week, just need to finish some work before.

Cas 10.... just... wow... I need to see some 32m action
Strat sagt:
32m is slow with Skylake... No motivation to try it yet. Maybe later.
Rauf sagt:
My board will arrive today Hope Pepi can share bios and tools soon
By the way Strat, no issues overclocking quad kits for you?
Strat sagt:
No issue at all, but as you can see on Hwbot, 2 dimm on cold is way better than 4 dimm on air (even on cold because of the low overclocking margin).
Rauf sagt:
You are very fast to reply!
I meant about the spd for quad kits giving problem overclocking on z170. Have seen reported that two mems from a quad kit overclocks worse on z170 than four the same mems on x99.

I haven't seen that kind of issue.

But I can't find T.0P bios, you will have to wait for Pepi.
