When it comes to Overclocking during Computex 2015, G.Skill are about as active in engaging with the scene as any other vendor. The Taiwanese memory manufacturer has managed to establish an almost unassailable reputation with overclockers who need the fastest memory as possible to compete. Apart from having some of the fastest memory kits on the market, they also do a great job of raising their profile by hosting competitions like the OC World Cup and the OC World Record Stage. Let’s take a look at these in more detail.

The OC World Record Stage

The contest is hosted at the G.Skill booth during the week of Computex in Taipei. It’s now in its fourth year and leverages G.Skill’s unique position as a memory vendor and host an event that lets the major motherboard vendors compete against each other, a phenomena that is usually impossible to establish such is the fierce rivalry between the brands. On each day during the show overclockers representing a different motherboard vendor are invited to bench at the G.Skill booth using their own board.

The names of the overclockers involved in the World Record Stage is mighty impressive with nineteen overclockers representing five motherboard vendors plus a G.Skill team.

OC World Cup 2015 – Live Qualifier & Grand Finals

The qualification rounds to make it to the grand showdown in Taipei were concluded a few months ago with six winners being handed plane tickets to Computex. The six winners includes some very familiar faces Dancop, dRweEz, Hazzan, Vivi, Lam@Capital and Xtreme Addict.

The grand final is held on Friday (June 5th) were the the top two go head to head to see who walks away with a prize of $10,000 in cash. The final day will involve three stages, two of which are selected by the two finalists, with the final stage selected by G.Skill - DDR4 Memory Clock. In the final, 16GB memory modules will be used, something that could prove to decisive as most overclockers have generally had less experience dealing with larger modules.

G.Skill at Computex 2015

As well enjoying the action at the booth, we also had a chance to speak with Mark Yu, Product Marketing Engineer at G.Skill. He explained that the core concept that drives a memory company like G.Skill is the notion that as processors and graphics cards get more powerful with each generation, so too the memory of the system must also be capable of delivering comparable performance. The hard work lies in working closely with Intel and the motherboard vendors to make sure that the product really delivers.

When asked about how G.Skill has become the most used memory brand on HWBOT (confirmed in the recent Q1 2015 report), the company reckons it’s all about delivering the product to enthusiasts and really getting the execution right. “We tell people what we can do, and then we do it. When people buy our stuff, it turns on and and it works.”

Among other things we discussed with G.Skill was the forthcoming arrival of a DDR4-3666 Kit, which was demoed at the booth and the launch of the new Trident Z series kits which features improved aluminum heatspreaders and a customizable bar that can be modified with various colors to match color scheme of your rig.
