Arise Wins Mobile Geeks 801 Tweaker Challenge + Interview

Last week the dust settled on the world's first ever mobile overclocking contest, the Mobile Geeks 801 Tweaker Challenge. Run in conjunction with MobileGeeks.com the contest invited all and sundry to pit their wits against each other in a quest to push the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor as far as possible to reach the highst possible score on the HWBOT Prime benchmark.

The prize on offer was a high-end OPPO Find 7 smartphone, but more importantly, the contest offered the opportunity to become world No.1 in the field of mobile processor chip overclocking… a prestigious position that now belongs to Arise from Romania.

Arise: "Running my Snapdragon CPU at 3GHz proved to be not very stable at all at 1.2V for the length of the benchmark, so I had to lower the ambient temperature. Placing my phone in the fridge for 10 minutes proved to be enough to prevent the phone crashing, restarting or any throttling. I used no insulation or any other types of extreme cooling, just made sure to let the phone return to room temperature, but keeping it in a cold room to prevent excessive condensation."
