Dancop (DE) and Joa3d43 Break Catzilla 720P World Records with ASUS Rampage V Extreme and Strix GeForce GTX 980

These are exciting times for the fans of the CatZilla benchmark. The benchmark is hosted at HWBOT in all its flavors but only the 720P and 1440P version are applicable for HWBoints. Evidently, the community focuses on those two variants most. In the past couple of days we’ve witness an interesting battle between Joa3d43 from Canada and Dancop from Germany.

The rivalry began quite some time ago as Joa3d43 has featured at the top of the Catzilla leaderboards for quite a while. On December 1 however, Dancop took his first ever ‘real’ World Record (as he phrases it himself) scoring 64948 points with 3 GeForce GTX 980 graphics cards clocked at 1685/2150 MHz, beating Joa3D43’s score by only a couple of points.

One day later, on December 2, the Canadian overclocker redeemed himself by improving the Catzilla 720P World Record to 65740. That is almost 800 points higher than Dancop’s result. For the record, Joa3D43 uses an Intel Core i7 5960X clocked at 4700 MHz on Phase-Change cooling, the ASUS Rampage V Extreme, 3x GeForce GTX 980 Classified graphics cards at 1750MHz core boost clock with water cooling(!), a 1300W High Current Pro PSU and 16GB of Dominator Platinum DDR4 memory. He comments: “day 3 w/ the new 980 classies...ramped up the clocks a bit after adding cooling...btw, this and previous runs are all consistent on sub tests and have been checked...”.

Congratulations to Joa3D43 for breaking the record, and good luck to everyone who feels challenges by these numbers!

// UPDATE //

Right before we wanted to post this news item Dancop broke the World Record once again. The target is now up at 68122 points with 3x ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 980 at 1850/2000 MHz and a Core i7 5960X at 5.5 GHz. Congratulations to both!
