Read, Edit and Write Your DDR3 SPDs with Elmor Labs EVC
Elmor Labs is on a real development streak. A couple of days ago we informed you about the support for upgradeable firmware and today Elmor Labs added another cool feature to the EVC device. With a soon-to-be-released software update it is possible to read, edit and write the SPD of your favorite DDR3 memory modules.
There are two options to flash new SPDs. One, you can use a dummy DDR3 PCB and plug in one of your available systems or Two, connect the EVC to the back of the motherboard. In the latter scenario you obviously have all DIMM slots available for flashing.
For more information check out the news article at Elmorlabs.com or the support thread here at HWBOT.

Thanks to an idea by Jake Crimmins of Corsair the eVc can now be considered an SPD flashing device as well

very interesting...

Glad you guys like it!
If someone wants to try if it works, try soldering to these spots (make sure dimm slot alignment is correct). If you find any address 0x50-0x53 you're good to go! (0x50 represents Slot #1, 0x51 Slot #2 etc). Original picture courtesy of TiN.

Really love open source stuff!

Unfortunately that will not give you everything and you will still need to do alot of calculations.

Cool stuff guys

Can't edit SPD yet (working on implementing all the available data), but you can read/write and save/open files. For example it's possible to copy the SPD from one stick to another. It's available under Menu -> SPD read/write.
Trouffman says:
I'm wonderign how this would impact comeptitions lock to certain manufacturers of ram.. as anyone can edit now (i mean easier to edit, this isn't new )
Antinomy says:
TiN, long time no see, nice work!
Question to the rest - why is this easier than the software way?
says:
This is just great stuff. Love it!
Splave says:
guys guys.....there is software that does all this already.... and it works on almost every platform
Antinomy says:
You're a bit late, Splave
