Maximum Speed | AMD FX Processor Takes Guinness World Record

On August 31, an AMD FX processor achieved a Guiness World Record with a frequency of 8.429GHz, a stunning result for a modern, multi-core processor. The record was achieved with several days of preparation and an amazing and inspired run in front of world renowned technology press in Austin, Texas.

4 out of 7 CPUs reached 8GHz. :)

Belgium Massman says:

Okay, this is good. - 5GHz on air - upto 5.5GHz with watercooling - 4 out of 7 chips do 8G+ on LN2

Finland Mean Machine says:

I wouldn't be surprised if those were hand-picked high-leakage ES CPU's, but sort of excited none the less.

Christian Ney says:

Overclocking is back with AMD :) God bless them

The 8.5gig chip was apparently just one from the tray. Untested :D

Dreadlockyx says:

Knowing that CPU overclocking is better each few months, I expect the AMD FX CPUs to reach 9GHz, maybe ! Anyway, awesome record set by chew*, Macci and others.

yeah gonna be a hel of fun there too ^^ now that make sens we see some SB-E score leaked with unofficial intel approval xD

I did the handpicking and i pulled 24 chips based on vid only posted in bios to check vid no clock testing at all.

We tested 4 of those 24 and hit 8.4........and said screw it after that.

I can confirm these were not HL ES as well.....

Homey doesn't play that game.......can't say the same for others however.

Sounds good to me. :)

so they're randomly picked....good news we can expect crazy perfomance by bulldozer cpus

Might try AMD's next round. this is cool... literally

Great work chew*, really impresive results!

nice work chew and others!

great stuff!

i wish i could do this..but there no "beginners guide to extreme overclocking" clases anywhere...:D

Congrats! Great achievment...:) Maybe time to test a Bulldozer...:D

United States dumo says:

In 3Ds 6.5Ghz 980X comparable to 5.8Ghz 2600K...then probly we neeed FX8150 run @ 6.6Ghz to compete

We all know how easy it is to bench 2600K @ 6Ghz+:)

The key is how easy an FX8150 reach 7Ghz+ 3D bench stable....which probly we will see soon

United States Hondacity says:

7g with 8threads? i wanna see that :D

United States dumo says:

Thats why Micro Centers should prepare to stock FX8150 adequately and put "on sale" retail price like they did with 2600K

The binning game will switch to the AMD shelf across the room. Lol

Italy Mafio says:

who cares about having 8 active cores ? :D
i want 1 core @ 7.5 GHZ 3dmark 01 stable...this would be interesting :D

says:

Ah that's killer, let's hope AMD is competitive im some benchmarks to male it interesting!!
