X58A-OC “OC Touch” feature used to push 990X to 7.1Ghz

Uh-oh!

Hey guys, here’s a quick shout out to everyone about another new feature we have with the X58A-OC board called OC Touch. It’s essentially a hardware level overclocking feature capable of adjusting the multiplier and bclock on the fly in or out of the operating system.

I’ve got a video here that hicookie made today to give you an idea how it works. He’s got the new Core i7 990X installed, LN2 pot running at -170C+, CPU boots at 6.4Ghz (178*36) and then gets clocked up using OC Touch bclock buttons to 7.1GHz (197*36). Easy!

Isn't that just... crazy? :|

TaPaKaH says:

I don't get the point.
The X58 platform is oficially dead (no new CPU generation is planned), it's already too late to launch an X58 board IMO.
If that was just a technology showcase - then congrats Gigabyte, you've achieved something ASUS and MSI had long ago ... nice CPU, by the way!

United States Hondacity says:

damnnnnnn thanks for sharing hicookie...i love the 1080p goodness which pot were you using? is that sf3d inflection pot?

United States steponz says:

Verynice, I love the mult change outside the os, seems other mnfrs couldnt ever do it....

United States G H Z says:

lol TaPaKaH, the point is you just saw 7GHz+ Gulf...duh :p

Australia Dinos22 says:

Harshal pot Honda and you can do multi change on the fly as well

United States Hondacity says:

oh nice... multi change is harshall pot available retail? lol i want one :D

Brazil Fabi says:

+ one monster CPU at Hicookie hands.... Waiting all new 2D records right now

Australia Dinos22 says:

nah that was a project for a few friends of T_M and Harshal, nice pot but you can get the same from Petri's and Vince's pots

well kinda, i actually like Harshal pot more than any other, the internals are just perfect imo

7GHz screenie is not difficult to achieve given the amount of chips some people go through (speaking of multiple dozens)
Fabi said: + one monster CPU at Hicookie hands....
Waiting all new 2D records right now
current breed of 990X ES are all bad 2D chips, most can run 06 cpu test higher than they pass 1M .. unless Hicookie pulls a bunny out of the hat again and finds 6900+/1050+/5000+ pi'able B1

Australia Dinos22 says:

Look who's talking

Australia Dinos22 says:

on a second look it has a round face that pot, not sure which one that is, maybe Petri sent him one of his post?!?

United States Hondacity says:

darnit...i was about to pm harshal ..lol

Denmark M.Beier says:

"I know Hicookie",
I will have to put that in signature soon!

Think Harshal' pot is a bit more slim? No?
Harshal was ahead of time with his pot, very nice indeed! However, for ultimate internals, check out the crazy thread of Otterauge on XS... They can be very very expensive, but that is just fantastic machinery.

who says you need more than 1 harddrive for the last 4 mobo platforms rofl!

United States Hondacity says:

lol splave did you also read the 580gtx stuck on his wall?

Poland ryba AICooling says:

Yes guys, that pot is exactly SF3D Infection Point on that movie and like Petri wrote here, just send e-mail to SF3DOCsales[at]sci.fi and there you can ask for price, shipping ect. :)

Well... it's nice to have but it's not exactly new

does anyone remember hicookies insulation at the first gigabyte event p45 event? he had a stack of neoprene foam cut outs as tall as the pot!
