UFDisciple Wins HWBOT Amateur World Series 2016 South Africa

The HWBOT World Tour 2016 made its second stop of the year at rAge in Cape Town South Africa last weekend. The event involved holding workshops and overclocking competitions for amateur players as well as some serious Extreme overclocking with a place the World Championship at stake. But as well as extreme overclocking, the best amateurs of the event were also invited to take part in the HWBOT Amateur World Series. Congrats to eventual winner UFDisciple who is now crowned Amateur World Series Champion of South Africa.

The HWBOT Amateur World Series Contest

The HWBOT World Tour 2016 is a series of overclocking events held around the world throughout the year. The idea behind the event has two main motives – firstly to provide a relaxed, social environment for experienced overclockers to learn, share and compete and secondly to help nurture the next generation of overclockers by providing open overclocking workshops where first timers can learn simple techniques that can improve their system’s performance.

The guys from HWBOT had plenty of systems laid out ready for the amateurs with hardware provided by sponsors MSI, Seasonic, G.SKILL and Intel. More than a hundred newbies got hands on with a guts of a PC, many for the first time with local, experienced overclockers and the HWBOT team on hand to offer advice and general OC tutelage.

The systems used included Intel Core i7 6700k processors, MSI Gaming Z170A GAMING Pro Carbon motherboards, G.SKILL Trident-Z Memory and Seasonic Platinum P-760 Power Supplies.

workshop

In terms of actually benching, gamers and PC enthusiasts attending rAge were given a basic tutorial using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, or XTU. After being shown the ropes, amateurs were then given a set time to run the benchmark and hit as high a score as possible.

At the end of the OC Workshops held over the course of the first two days, the four overclockers with the highest scores were invited to a head to head session in the Final. Overclockers were asked to make two submissions, swapping systems at the mid way point to ensure nobody had an advantage in terms of CPU performance. Both scores were added together to create a final score. As you can see from the image below, UFDisciple won with a final combined score of 2918 marks XTU, edging past Anroe on 2899 marks.
