Team competition is a nice thing BUT the limitations just dont fit it IMO.

March 16, 2012 at 2:36:38 AM GMT

It says

Must use MSI branded graphics card to participate (Use GPU-Z to verify)

Does that mean I can use another branded card as long as it has been flashed with an MSI BIOS? That would be identified correctly in GPU-Z, but does it count?

March 16, 2012 at 4:18:41 AM GMT

That, I imagine, rather depends on whether you state your intentions or not :D

Well, the intention would be to win, but obviously I want any entry I put in to be above board :) I have an XFX 7770 Black Edition, but would happily flash it with an MSI BIOS if it lets me enter the comp :)

Earlier it said that we could use any card as long as it was flashed with MSI BIOS. I hope that rule hasn't changed?

It never said that.

It said 'You must use a MSI branded card. MSI must be visible in subvendor or bios of GPU-Z'.

Maybe I'm wrong then. Five days ago, when the email was sent out, I could have sworn it mentioned flashing the BIOS of the cards.

In any case, is flashing the cards to an MSI BIOS allowed?

March 18, 2012 at 1:31:04 AM GMT

it is not allowed. i purchased my msi card and you purchased asus. and flashing to msi makes sense? of course not

I saw that too but now the text has changed.

It is if you dont spill the beans on a forum ;)

March 19, 2012 at 3:38:40 PM GMT

Note that we'll also check the system pictures to check for brand ;)

March 19, 2012 at 3:45:19 PM GMT

cheating has its consequences too :)

March 20, 2012 at 8:07:03 PM GMT

IF the cards are ref design, who cares? Would MSI like kudos for having the best heatsink stickers?

;)

Ok so at least I'm not blind. :P

That sucks though :(

No, this doesn't really make sense. But having a team competition limited to only MSI cards doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. :P

March 21, 2012 at 3:56:16 AM GMT

How are you going to verify the card from a photo with people using water or extreme cooling? Full cover water blocks will make it hard but extreme cooling with all of the insulation will make it even harder.

March 21, 2012 at 5:02:30 AM GMT

Read the rules. Its already stated there. Don't worry about the rules. Worry about winning lol

ähmm guys, short question. i know 7970, 7950, 7770, 7750 but no 78xx with dx11 skills.

March 24, 2012 at 3:12:36 PM GMT

I mentioned the same to MSI, but they told me 7870 would be in retail by March 19.

Good question, I'll check on monday.

I think MSI will want the cards to be allowed.

I didn't get one thing: you've said that is a team competition, right? So how is the score calculated? The teams need a minimum number of submissions or just the best is taken for the final score? Every one who submits a score if the team wins will receive prizes?

I've read the rules again and again and I still don't get it.

Thanks!

March 26, 2012 at 12:48:53 PM GMT

1) 7970 Lightning is allowed. They should be in stores today or tomorrow

2) 7870s should also be in the stores already.

The winning team of each stage gets 3 boards to distribute to members (Team Captain can decide how to do this). Just like the HWBOT OC Challenges, only one score is needed to complete the team score. So, if you submit a score with your 7970, you submitted 'for the team'.

I already have the ref :sigh:

March 27, 2012 at 3:15:19 AM GMT

Mikecdm beat me

Now Gman lol

March 27, 2012 at 4:57:06 PM GMT

I see no rules detailing the number of GPUs we are permitted to use. Is CrossFireX permitted?

March 27, 2012 at 5:03:13 PM GMT

"Use 1 videocard core(s) in total."

(it's on the competition benchmark stage page)

March 27, 2012 at 5:22:06 PM GMT

Doh, must not have seen that as I was glancing over things.

April 1, 2012 at 1:07:15 PM GMT

not with whatever driver came on the disc, (12.1?) still 1200/1250 with a max of 1.25v.

will be testing 12.3 in a bit and will report back if the limits are raised.

i used 12.1 and no limitation... perhaps you didnt put the msi EULA at msiafterburner.cfg

here's 3dm11 @1200/1500mhz using catalist 12.1

April 9, 2012 at 1:06:40 PM GMT

as my Team has a Msi 7970 but no afterburner extreme, we can't give more volt than 1,3. with asus bios We can give 1,4v. so is it allowed to use the asus bios on the Msi card and submit the score? thanks for clearing this.

April 9, 2012 at 1:16:50 PM GMT

Let me check with MSI. HQ is gone home now, so I will only be able to answer the question tomorrow.

April 9, 2012 at 1:35:20 PM GMT

thanks.if they dont allow different vendor bios (which I would understand pr-wise) they should make ab extreme public.

April 9, 2012 at 4:15:50 PM GMT

Hello guys, could someone re-host dll please? Link is dead :(

April 10, 2012 at 10:29:58 AM GMT

Thanks Honda. But I was asking for AMD DLL which allow frequency in AB with 7770 :D.

But I solved it, I can host it if someone need it.

April 10, 2012 at 10:44:17 AM GMT

You're correct: GPU-Z must say MSI. Can't you modify the vendor_id of the Asus BIOS to MSI?

AB extreme is still a difficult issue ... warranty :(

April 10, 2012 at 12:27:42 PM GMT

ok, thanks for the clearing this up :)

April 11, 2012 at 4:35:57 PM GMT

maybe someone is so nice and shoots me a pm with msi ab-e.

got only 17hours left.

no sharing is obligatory-and warranty is my prob only.

thanks in advance
